Tesla is charging higher prices for the Model 3 and Model Y, AutoWeek notes based on the current amounts Tesla lists on its website. These are higher than the last prices known to us. In a response, however, Tesla states remarkably enough that no price increases have recently been implemented for the Dutch market.
The entry-level Model 3, which has been simply called “Model 3” since late last year, is still listed on Tesla’s website for $49,980. That is the amount without delivery costs. The difference lies in the latter. Last year, the Model 3, including delivery costs, still cost €50,995, now the Tesla website shows an amount of €52,685. That’s an increase of $1,690. The price of the Model 3 Long Range has been increased by the same amount from €58,995 to €60,685. There is no change in the Model 3 Performance. It still costs €64,985.
The price difference is even greater with the Model Y Long Range at €2,287. The last price known to us including delivery costs was €65,018, which is now €67,305. The same applies to the Model Y Performance as to the Model 3: that price does not change compared to what was previously known.
AutoWeek inquired with Tesla about the higher prices. A spokesperson for the brand said Tesla had not officially increased prices for the Dutch market and could not confirm the price increase. The brand did not give any reason for the higher roadworthy prices on the site. So it looks like Tesla has been quietly raising prices. That in itself is not unusual in the car industry, but it is remarkable that Tesla hides the increase in the delivery costs. The price increase is probably related to the higher nickel price. In other markets, Tesla did increase the price of the Model 3 and Model Y for that reason.
