The recently renewed Tesla Model 3 has a larger battery capacity, according to leaked German import papers of a Model 3 Long Range. From now on, this variant has a battery pack with a capacity of 82 kWh. That is three percent more than before.
Tesla itself has not yet released figures of the battery capacity of the renewed Model 3. Inside EVs found the figure of 82 kWh via a subpage on the forum Reddit. The import papers of the new Tesla Model 3 state that the battery pack has a capacity of 82 kWh. This is the Model 3 Long Range with all-wheel drive. According to the source, the battery previously had a capacity of 79 kWh. So it would amount to a 3.8 percent increase in energy density. That seems realistic, because the range of the Model 3 Long Range has increased by 3.6 percent from 560 to 580 km. So those improvements are about the same.
Not only the Model 3 Long Range, but also the Standard Range Plus and the Performance will continue on one battery charge after the renewal. It is therefore to be expected that the battery capacity of those variants will also have improved. Incidentally, the improvement is in line with the goal of battery supplier Panasonic to increase the energy density of the battery pack. For the next five years, Panasonic is aiming for a 20 percent increase in energy density. The improvement now made on the Model 3 would be a first step towards that goal. Incidentally, Tesla is planning a lot more in the field of batteries. For example, the battery pack must become a structural part of the car and the car manufacturer ultimately wants to be responsible for a larger part of the battery production itself.
