Tesla Model 3 Long Range RWD: out of stock, so specifications

The Tesla Model 3 has also been available as a Long Range with rear-wheel drive for some time now. The Tesla Model 3 with the largest range is in principle only available for business customers, but thanks to stock cars we are now learning more about the car. The Tesla Model 3 LR RWD also seems to be orderable for private individuals. With a detour, but fortunately that detour is not a problem for this model.

The Tesla Model 3 Long Range RWD combines the large battery pack of the Long Range Dual Motor with the single electric motor of the entry-level version, formerly known as Standard Range Plus. The Long Range RWD first appeared in 2019 and was also dropped again later that year, but recently returned. As before, you will not find it in the configurator, but it is a so-called ‘off-menu’ option that you have to ask for specifically.

Unlike before, in 2023 this is only possible if you are a business customer, but there seems to be a solution for that. On Tesla’s “shipping soon” page we find two ‘Long Range Rear-wheel drive’ versions at the time of writing, although that stock will change. Those stock cars therefore seem to be ‘normal’ orderable for private individuals, who then pay €46,993 including delivery costs. Incidentally, for that money – if available – you can choose between white and black. Tesla has made both paint colors ‘free’ for the Model 3, which initially came standard in black, and later came standard in white.

The stock cars provide a number of insights. For example, the promised range is not the previously communicated 634 kilometers, but 620 kilometers. This is probably due to the fact that Tesla uses the figure of the version with larger 19-inch wheels for the official range. With the regular entry-level version, this gives an official figure of 491 kilometers, while the version with 18-inch is estimated by Tesla at 510 kilometers. With 620 kilometers, the Long Range RWD is of course still the version with the longest driving range: a Long Range AWD comes up to 602 kilometers according to the WLTP standard.

Tesla Model 3 interior

Another interesting fact: the cars in the stock list are equipped with a “partial premium interior”, according to the Tesla site. With that somewhat vague term, Tesla means the interior, which is mainly distinguished by the absence of a number of speakers, including a subwoofer. This would make the Long Range with rear-wheel drive the same equipment as the entry-level version, and therefore not the regular Long Range. At the same time, we think we see fog lights, which is another typical Long Range feature. We will not get complete certainty about the equipment on Whit Monday, but the fact that the cars can be ordered is of course interesting.
