Tesla Model S most exported EV

The electric car market is growing on all sides. As a consumer, you can choose from an ever-growing range and more second-hand electric cars are also becoming available on the second-hand market every year. Not only do we buy used EVs from our own country, we also import more and more used electric cars. In addition, we also export more used EVs abroad. Thanks to VWE Automotive, we can provide insight into which electric cars are most commonly imported and exported.

Relatively many electric cars are sold in the Netherlands. More and more electric used cars are becoming available on the used car market, but the supply is not always sufficient. Traders and, to a lesser extent, consumers are cleverly responding to this by importing used electric cars from other countries. In the first three quarters of 2021, 6,151 used EVs were brought to the Netherlands. That is no less than 85 percent more than in the same period last year. At that time, the EV import counter was still at 3,351 units. The export figures show that not only second-hand electric cars entered the Netherlands, but also left the country. In the first nine months of this year, 2,622 used electric cars were exported. That is no less than 144 percent more than in the same period last year. At that time, 1,075 second-hand electric cars left the Dutch borders for good.

Export

Although on the one hand more and more used electric cars are entering our country, more and more are also being put on the boat. From abroad there seems to be a great demand for the Model S. Tesla’s Model S has been on the market for a few years now and in the Netherlands there seems to be more demand for the smaller Model 3. 583 used Tesla’s Model S disappeared abroad, 53 percent more than in the first three quarters of 2020. Don’t be surprised if there are a whole bunch of ex-taxis among them. The Hyundai Kona Electric and Kia e-Niro will start entering the second-hand market in greater numbers this year, resulting in massively growing export numbers. The Kona Electric and e-Niro finish in second and third place respectively.

The list of ten most exported used EVs also includes many electric cars that have been around for some years, including the Volkswagen e-Golf, Jaguar i-Pace, BMW i3 and Smart ForTwo. Still, 530 of the cars exported in the first three quarters of this year had 2021 as the year of manufacture. 575 exported EVs were from 2020 and 237 from 2019. 366 exported used electric cars were built in 2018, while 276 and 347 left the factory gates in 2017 and 2016 respectively.
