Tesla Model X – Back to Basics

Although the Tesla Model X has been on the market for a while, it has never been featured in this section. It was recently given a facelift, delivery of the first refreshed copies is planned for the end of this year. It is therefore high time to take a look at what you get for just over a ton in euros. Tip of the veil: the controversial steering wheel is included.

Tesla Model X Long Range

€ 101,000

Tesla keeps it fairly clear for the Model X when it comes to the available versions. It is only available as a Long Range and as a Plaid, whereby the Long Range has two electric motors with an output of 680 hp, four-wheel drive and a battery pack of 95 kWh. The WLTP range is 580 kilometers. Fast charging is possible with a maximum of 250 kW, with alternating current the maximum charging speed is 16.5 kWh. The Plaid has the same battery capacity, but delivers a power of no less than 1,020 hp thanks to its three motors. The top version has an additional cost of € 20,000 compared to the Long Range.

A number of things have changed with the facelift of the Model X. The window frame is now in black and the accents on the exterior have also exchanged their chrome layer for that color. The front and rear bumpers have also been modified. Furthermore, the Model X comes standard with adaptive LED headlights. The car is painted in Pearl White as standard, the other four available colors are black, gray, blue and red. The red color has the highest additional cost at € 2,700, the other paint colors require an investment of € 1,600. The Model X comes standard on 20-inch ‘Cyberstream’ wheels. Optionally, 22-inch Turbine wheels are also available for the sweet sum of € 5,900.

Model X comes standard with electric front doors that open and close automatically. The hinged rear doors also work electrically, as does the tailgate. Model X also has a panoramic windshield that extends towards the roof and all windows have UV and infrared protection. Tinted rear windows are also standard. The exterior mirrors are heated and electrically foldable, and they are always automatically dimming. Parking sensors and all-round cameras are also standard.

New kind of steering wheel

The interior of the Model X has been changed a lot more drastically during the facelift. The touchscreen is no longer mounted vertically but horizontally and measures 17 inches. This creates extra space on the center console for a wireless phone charger with space for two telephones. The rear passengers will receive an 8-inch touchscreen. The Model X is available with three different seat configurations: the five-seater has no extra cost, if you want six or seven seats, you pay € 6,900 or € 3,700 respectively extra. Furthermore, the unconventional ‘Yoke’ steering wheel is immediately noticeable. This is also available as standard. The interior in the Model X is finished in black with wood on the center console. A white or beige interior costs € 2,200.

Options for the interior are also not available for the Model X. The SUV always has a premium audio system with 22 speakers and 960 watts on board. Furthermore, each passenger gets heated seats and the steering wheel is also heated. The front seats are also ventilated and the climate control has three zones as standard. Remote preheating and cooling is also included. As a customer you also get 1 year of Premium Connectivity with your Model X. With that service you get music streaming, live traffic information, satellite maps, video and music streaming, an internet browser and, yes, Caraoke included.

In terms of safety systems, every Model X comes standard with Automatic Emergency Braking and 12 ultrasonic sensors that detect nearby vehicles, for example in the blind spot. Adaptive Cruise Control and Autopilot are also standard. Enhanced Autopilot is optionally available for € 3,800. With that package, Model X can navigate with Autopilot and change lanes itself when you activate the turn signal (Auto Lane Change). The Model X can then automatically park and you can drive the car forwards or backwards via the app with Summon. For € 7,500 you can also opt for Full Self Driving, with which the Model X recognizes traffic lights and should soon be able to drive automatically on urban streets. The latter depends, among other things, on when the legislation allows it.
