Tesla Model Y, Model S and Ora Funky Cat safest in their class

Five NCAP winners

Tesla Model Y Euro NCAP

Euro NCAP looks back at the results of the 2022 safety tests and declares a winner per class. Tesla won two prizes, but two strangely named newcomers from the Chinese Great Wall also managed to become class winners.

Also in 2022, the European branch of the Global NCAP drove dozens of new or updated models banging against its walls. When assessing the safety of new models, Euro NCAP looks at the headings ‘Safety for adult occupants’, ‘Safety for children in the car’, ‘Pedestrian safety’ and ‘Assistance systems’. This year, especially high scores of 5 NCAP stars were handed out, but also among all those well-scoring models, there are cars that passed the Euro NCAP safety tests better than others. Euro NCAP now designates a winner for each class it uses.

Tesla should be proud. Both the Tesla Model Y and Model S came out on top in their respective classes. Euro NCAP classifies the Model Y in the ‘Small Off Roader’ category and places the Model S in the ‘Executive Car’ group. The Chinese company Great Wall also received two springs from Euro NCAP in its automobile rear. Great Wall has brought two brands to Europe: Wey and Ora. Wey sells the curiously named Coffee 01, a car that came out on top in the Large Off Roader category.

The second winner of Great Wall is the even more jolly compact EV that the company is marketing in Europe under the brand name Ora: the Ora Funky Cat. Which glitzy pussy can call itself the best-scoring car in the Small Family Car class. The Hyundai Ioniq 6 is also one of the prizes. The Hyundai Ioniq 6 can call itself the best-scoring car in the Large Family Car category.
