Tesla only supplies German Model Y in two colors

The Tesla Model Y, produced in Germany, will only come out of the spray booth in two colors for the time being: black and white. That reports the German medium Automobilwoche. By scaling back the number of available colors, the Model Y should roll off the production line at a faster pace. Customers who do want a different color will have to wait longer.

“You can choose any color, as long as it’s black.” Tesla seems to be more or less adopting Henry Ford’s old adage on the factory site in Grünheide, Germany. Tesla offers the customer another choice, because you can order a German-made Model Y in the colors ‘Pearl White Multi-Coat’ and ‘Solid Black’. White is the standard color for the Model Y, for a black copy you have to pay an additional €1,200. Reducing the number of available colors should help ensure that a Model Y spends only 45 seconds in the paint booth instead of the previous 90 seconds.

Tesla still offers the three other colors available for the Model Y – gray, red and blue – in the configurator, but then your car will come from Shanghai and you will have to take a longer delivery time into account. For a white or black Model Y, Tesla expects you to receive it between October and December of this year. If you order a blue or red copy, it must be delivered between November 2022 and January 2023. The waiting time is longest for a gray Model Y: then you will receive the car in December at the earliest and at the latest in February next year.

Not the only one

Tesla is not the only manufacturer that delivers cars faster to customers when they choose specific colors. Renault does something similar to the Arkana and offers faster delivery if customers opt for black, pearl white or gray and choose the RS-Line trim level. In that case, Renault guarantees a delivery time of up to 30 days instead of the now average waiting time of five months, the news agency reports Reuters.
