Giga Espana

Tesla’s expansionist drive seems tireless. The American car brand has advanced plans for a second European gigafactory, writes a Spanish newspaper. The factory should be built near the city of Valencia.
The Spanish newspaper CincoDÃas reports, based on information from anonymous sources, that Tesla is in talks with the local authorities of the Spanish city of Valencia about the construction of a new gigafactory. The talks are said to be at an advanced stage and the construction would involve investments of ‘more than €4.5 billion’. It is Tesla’s second European gigafactory, after the first – near Berlin – which started operation in 2022.
The construction of the Berlin gigafactory took about three years, so don’t expect Teslas from Spain before 2027. Provided the plans go through, of course. In any case, the suspicion that this will happen is dark brown. The local authorities of Valencia are not commenting on the plans, but it has already become clear that there is an international automotive player – other than Volkswagen – who would like to invest billions in the region.
Tesla is growing
Now that there are also anonymous sources who believe it is Tesla, the second European gigafactory seems almost certain. That would not be very surprising: Europe is an important sales market for electric cars and Tesla’s sales figures are still growing rapidly. The Tesla Model Y is currently the best-selling car in the world – and that for an EV.
