Tesla built 102,672 cars in the first three months of this year and delivered 88,400. This was the best first quarter ever, although the prospects are of course less favorable.
When noting its production and sales figures, Tesla distinguishes between two model lines. The larger S and X on the world stage accounted for 15,390 production sites and 12,200 episodes. That leaves the rest for the Model 3 and Model Y, with it to be noted that production of the latter only started in March. The bulk of the 87,282 built more compact models is therefore still due to the well-known sedan.
The best first quarter is certainly not the same as the best quarter, because Tesla delivered 112,000 cars in the last three months of 2019. Nevertheless, it is of course good news. All the more reason to enjoy it one more time, because the prospects are in for Tesla, in the entire car world and actually just in the whole world, of course, less favorable. The production of innovative Americans has also largely come to a halt due to the advancing coronavirus, so the outlook for the current quarter is not so bright. In the longer term, the hope is that the Model Y can make up for the loss a bit, because Tesla has very high expectations for its somewhat affordable SUV.
Tesla emphasizes that these production and sales figures should not be confused with the actual result. The financial side of things will follow later. The final number of delivered cars can also be adjusted by half a percent if all signed contracts have been neatly sorted in the filing cabinet.
Also in the Netherlands is (or was it?) Tesla is back on track, because the Model 3 again topped the sales rankings in March.
