Tesla seems to be planning something very special with the Roadster. According to current plans, it will receive a SpaceX version with rocket engines on the back of the car.
Just when you think that Tesla CEO can’t come up with something more absurd, he seems to be doing it again. The Tesla Roadster is still under development – according to the latest reports we will not see the final version until next year – but there is now a prototype in the renowned Petersen Automotive Museum with an extremely special piece of information. According to the generally knowledgeable Electrek there is a sign next to the car that a ‘SpaceX package’ will be available for the Roadster. Whoever orders that will get rocket engines on the back of the Tesla. Not rocket engines that blow out huge flames, but cold air under high pressure. Musk talked about this before, but the plans are now in black and white.
The package is of course named after Musk’s rocket ship company SpaceX, which will undoubtedly deliver the missiles. For security reasons, there will be an enormous list of ifs and buts on its use and we can imagine that it is only allowed on closed (private) areas. If you switch them on, the information on the sign says it should be 60 mph (97 km / h) from standstill in 1.1 seconds. Bizarre. You don’t have to be ashamed of the Roadster without rockets during a sprint. According to current expectations, the duration from 0 to 100 km / h is ‘less than 2.1 seconds’ and the top speed is above 400 km / h.
