Hands off the wheel on paper

Will Tesla cars still be available in Europe with Full Self Driving (FSD) this year? If it is up to CEO Elon Musk, that is certainly possible.
There’s a lot going on around Tesla’s Full Self Driving System (FSD). The package of smart software and hardware should make it possible for Tesla cars to find their way through traffic more autonomously than with the well-known Autopilot. Although the name of the system suggests otherwise – and which is one of the reasons that the system is not entirely free of controversy – it is not a system that enables fully autonomous driving. Currently, Tesla’s FSD system is only available as Beta in the United States, but if it is up to CEO Elon Musk, the final version of the system will also be available in Europe at the end of this year.
According to Reuters, Tesla CEO Musk said during an energy conference in Norway that he aims to have the FSD system ready for the market by the end of this year and therefore beta ready. Musk says it’s possible that Tesla’s Full Self Driving package could be rolled out across the United States by the end of the year, but it won’t stop there. According to Elon Musk, the system ‘may also be available in Europe’ around the end of the year, although the system still has to be approved in Europe. It remains to be seen whether that will happen in view of the criticism of the system – and of its name, among other things.
