The week is over and that means a fresh app overview is waiting for you! You should not miss out on these new apps, games and updates. The best iOS apps of week 11 can be found here.

The best iOS apps at a glance

The App Store is working overtime every week to process the endless stream of new apps and updates. However, you hardly notice this, because only a small part is worth installing. If your iPhone or iPad could use some new apps, you’ve come to the right place.

1. WhatsApp

Version 2.19.31 of WhatsApp for iOS is now available. The update adds a small but welcome improvement, which will come in handy if you want to add a new person to the app. As soon as you enter a phone number, the app automatically checks whether the number belongs to a WhatsApp account.

This way you know for sure that you add someone who actually has WhatsApp. That works very easily. Simply press ‘New Chat’ and then ‘New Contact’ to make the check.

2. Twitter

Twitter makes photo and video even more important in its app with the most recent update. This is now gradually rolling out to all users. The most eye-catching feature is a camera that you can quickly open by swiping. The photo or video that you then take can be posted on the social medium at lightning speed.

Before you post a photo from the camera function, you can add a location, text and hashtags to it. Just like a normal tweet, you have a maximum of 280 characters to fill as a caption. Furthermore, all photos will now appear a lot larger in your timeline.

3. Spectrum

The recently released camera app Specter, from the makers of the equally fine Halide, has received its first major update. The app takes beautiful photos with a slow shutter speed, giving you cool lighting effects. The update is especially beneficial for older iPhones. For example, this adds support for stabilization for the iPhone 7, iPhone 6S and SE.

You can also benefit from better image stabilization with the Light Trails mode, so that you can take even better photos in the dark of, for example, a busy highway. Furthermore, you can now shoot in higher resolution if you have activated the Live Photo mode.

4. Gboard

The versatile Google keyboard Gboard for iOS now has a translation function. The Google Translate service is now built into the keyboard. This allows you to simply type text that you want to translate in Dutch first. When you press translate, the translated text will immediately appear in the text field for quick sending.

Submitting a question or reservation at a holiday address or communicating with international friends, foreign travel companions or overseas family becomes a lot easier and faster. The Translate function supports more than 100 languages.
