The week is over and that means that a fresh app overview is waiting for you! As far as we are concerned, you should not miss these new apps, games and updates. You can find the best iOS apps from week 23 here.

The best iOS apps at a glance

The App Store works overtime every week to handle the never-ending stream of new apps and updates. However, you will hardly notice this, because only a fraction of it is worth installing. If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch can use some new apps, you’ve come to the right place.

1. Monument Valley 2

Monument Valley 2 was unveiled during the WWDC 2017 keynote. The game, in which you move through a beautiful world in the style of the Dutch artist MC Escher, is now available for download in the App Store. You play as Ro, a mother who has to let her child get to know the world. Just like in the previous part, you solve puzzles by looking at the environments and moving buildings and paths.

2. NS Travel Planner Xtra

The NS Travel Planner Xtra app is ready for version 5.0, which brings a lot of improvements. When you open the popular travel app, you immediately see that a lot has changed. The hamburger menu has made way for a bar at the bottom, which allows you to switch between the functions of the application much faster. At the bottom you will find the journey planner, the overview of stations, your set journeys and current disruptions. Also new are the widgets and train and bus radar.

3. Framed

Apple has named Framed the free App of the Week. In the game you go through a detective story and determine the outcome yourself. As a player you have to puzzle with a comic book, in which you have to put the pieces of the story in the right place. In this way you determine the gameplay of Framed. However, the game’s setup is simple. Each scene is split up into different boxes, and you have to make sure they are in the correct order. You do this by dragging the boxes and then pressing ‘play’ to play the scene.

4. AirPano City Book

AirPano City Book is a typical app that only comes into its own when you see it in action. Large fold-out plates of cities like New York, Paris, Rome and Moscow unfold on your screen, after which you can zoom in and poke around down to the smallest details. With 360-degree virtual tours you can view these world cities from above, with great tips for places of interest. In total, more than 300 of these types of panoramas have been incorporated into the app. You can temporarily download the application for free via the Apple Store app.

5. WhatsApp

Although WhatsApp regularly gets new features, until now no filters have been available to spice up your snaps. Version 2.17.30 of the iOS app changes this. The existing photo editing options are thus expanded with filters. The nice thing about this update is that you can’t just paste the filters on photos. You can also give videos and even GIFs a new look in this way.
