The A15 chip isn’t as fast as Apple promised (it’s even faster)

The iPhone 13 contains the brand new A15 Bionic chip. Apple says this processor is 50 percent faster than the competition. However, after an extensive test, the A15 chip in the iPhone 13 appears to be a lot smoother.

A15 processor in iPhone 13 is more powerful than promised

Apple says the A15 Bionic processor in the iPhone 13 is about fifty percent faster than the competition. After an extensive test comes AnandTech concluded that the new chip is even 62 percent faster.

This is mainly due to the larger level 2 cache on the A15 chip. It goes from 8MB to 12MB (the cache is a very fast piece of memory). As a result, the A15 has the same amount of cache as the M1 processor (which you also find in the MacBook Air).

Point of criticism: iPhone gets hot

Graphically, the chip is also faster than Apple had promised, but there is also a point of criticism. For example, the iPhone 13 Pro suffers from ‘throttling’. This means that the iPhone will lower the speed when it gets too hot. Despite the heat, the iPhone is “still a lot faster and better for playing games than the competition.”

A15 chip also in the iPad mini 2021

Just like the iPhone 13 series, the iPad mini 2021 has an A15 chip on board. However, benchmarks show that the chip in the iPad mini is a bit less fast.

The new iPad mini has a processor speed of 2.93GHz. The chip is clocked lower than the iPhone 13, which has a 3.2GHz processor. It is not known why Apple has chosen to use different clock speeds.
