Apple has announced that it is working on a new program that will allow you to get a discount in the App Store. We explain to you how that works.
Get discounts in the App Store
Good news if you have taken out a subscription via the App Store, because you may soon receive a discount. Apple is working on a new program that will allow developers to give their subscribers a discount. This applies when taking out multiple subscriptions. Developers can choose to offer a second (or third) subscription at a more favorable price.

You must already have an active subscription to receive a discount in the App Store. Are you canceling that subscription anyway? Then you have to pay the main price for the second subscription. Apple is trying to make it more attractive to subscribe to various services in the App Store. That is not surprising, because Apple itself receives a share of the subscription revenue through the App Store.
Take out multiple subscriptions
In the new App Store program, developers can choose whether they offer a discount when taking out subscriptions. It does not matter whether you take out a second subscription with the same developer, or start a subscription with a different app developer. Developers can then decide for themselves at what price the second subscription can be taken out.
The discount in the App Store should make it easier for developers to attract and retain subscribers. After all, you have to keep the first subscription to get the discount on the second subscription. In this way, Apple is trying to make taking out multiple subscriptions more attractive. This is still a test, in which a certain number of developers can use the new method.

Apple will provide more details about the new App Store program in January. Developers can sign up now to get more information next month. It is therefore expected that Apple will give more developers the opportunity to offer discounts in the App Store in January 2024. For example, you may soon receive a discount on your YouTube subscription if you are already a Spotify subscriber.

It is not yet clear how much freedom developers have in determining the discount in the App Store. In any case, this is good news for users, because hopefully next year you will have to pay less for all the different subscriptions.
