There is striking news about the iPhone SE 2022 (€ 330.59). The French website iGeneration reports that Apple will stop selling the third generation iPhone SE this year. But why exactly?
From December 28, all telephone manufacturers in the EU must equip their devices with USB-C. This was determined by the European Parliament at the end of 2022. Devices such as the iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 already have such a port, but the iPhone SE 2022 still has an old Lightning port.
While Apple could have chosen to customize these models, they have now seemingly decided to pull them from the market. This also means that the iPhone 14 will no longer be sold by Apple, because it also had a lightning connection.
But what does this mean for the future of the iPhone SE? Don’t worry, Apple is already working on a fourth generation iPhone SE, according to various rumors. This iPhone is expected to be released in the spring of 2025. This new model has a modern design that resembles the iPhone 14, with a borderless screen, better cameras and of course: USB-C.
Useful to know: outside the EU, the SE and iPhone 14 models will remain available for the time being (probably until the end of 2025). However, the lightning era is coming to an end everywhere.
The iPhone SE 2022 in short
The iPhone SE 2022 has the look of the iPhone SE 2020. This means that the smartphone has a home button. Furthermore, it has Touch ID, but no Face ID.
The iPhone SE 3 has a 4.7-inch LCD display, just like its older brother from 2020. Wireless charging via MagSafe, as is possible with the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13, is not available. The device is powered by the A15 Bionic, which also powers the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro. The iPhone SE 2022 is therefore a lot more powerful than its predecessor, the iPhone SE 2020.
