Almost all cars will be slightly more expensive in 2024 than in 2023. Nowadays, new cars rarely deserve the label ‘cheap’. AutoWeek lists for you what the cheapest – or least expensive – new passenger cars are at the moment.

It has been about ten years since you could get into a new B-segment car for roughly 15 grand. While in 2014 you could get into a new Corsa from just over €15,000, you now spend at least €24,149 for the Opel Corsa. In 2024 you will have to look hard to buy a new passenger car for less than €20,000, but they are still there. Last year there were eight car models for sale with a starting price of less than 20 grand, in 2024 there will be only seven. Of these, five are A-segmenters and only two are models in the so-called B-segment.

1. Dacia Sandero – €17,200

The Dacia Sandero was the ultimate price winner of 2023 and appears to be the same in 2024. Although the Sandero and the more spacious and more playfully decorated Sandero Stepway have become more expensive compared to last year, the Sandero is still the cheapest new passenger car that you can buy at the moment. With its length of about 4.1 meters and luggage space of 410 liters, it is also a full-fledged B-segment car, unlike most other models on this list. For €17,200 you get a Dacia Sandero with a TCe 100 Eco-G engine, a power source that likes both petrol and LPG. That drivetrain also provides you with significant savings at the pump. For air conditioning, however, you should go for the more expensive Expression version.
