A sleek, large EV with enormous range
What if the Citroën CX ever comes back in retro form? Our illustrator Larson has a thing for design icons from the past and certainly old Citroëns. That’s why he drew what he thought a retro version of the icon should look like.
First of all, let’s compliment Citroën on the path they took a few years ago: they are a bit more original in terms of design than in the first fifteen years of this century. The C5 X is in any case special! But which model would we like to see in a retro look? Anyone who has read the AutoWeek annual special in recent years has already seen many classic Troentjes.
Fantastic past
The fantastic past of the brand still keeps us busy as editors. An SM, an Ami, a 2CV, all derived from our imagination and passed on to our gifted draftsman. Now we dropped the CX on him. What should it look like as a retro model for the near future? Like that beautiful, large streamlined fastback of yesteryear, of course, with the rear wheel arches closed and a fairing that should be even lower than the Mercedes EQE and EQS. And then with a battery pack of around 100 kWh, good for a range of around 700 kilometers. The new retro CX will be a groundbreaking EV, bringing back the times of the big Citroëns with the big turbo diesels: made to whiz for hours on end, this time on electricity.
Also with this retro dream a big disclaimer: this has all bubbled up in our fantasy. Also know that the brand itself also dreams, as this concept from 2016 proves. A study model in which you can also see something of the current C5 X.
