The connection with CarPlay is lost: this is how you solve this

When using CarPlay, the connection may be lost. This will ensure that the CarPlay connection is fixed again.

The CarPlay connection is lost

Of course, when you’re driving, you don’t want the CarPlay connection to be lost. Suddenly you no longer know how to drive, because the navigation app of your choice is no longer on the screen, or your music or podcast is lost. We explain how to restore the connection.

1. Give CarPlay access

Within iOS, make sure to allow CarPlay to connect to your car while your iPhone is locked. You do this by going to settings and then choosing ‘General> CarPlay’. There you select your car and make sure that ‘CarPlay when locked’ is enabled.

2. Download updates

Make sure you have downloaded the latest updates. The updates of iOS are especially important, because by updating iOS you also immediately update CarPlay.

3. Try a cable

You can use CarPlay wirelessly and wired. Wireless is of course only possible if your car supports it. While wireless is the easiest in theory, it’s not the most stable option. Do you notice that if CarPlay is regularly disconnected when you connect the iPhone wirelessly? Then try it with a cable. Then you are assured of a much more stable connection.

4. Clean the charging port of your iPhone

If you use a cable to connect your iPhone for CarPlay, the connection may also be lost. That could be due to the cable, but it’s more likely that it has to do with your iPhone’s charging port.

If you regularly put your iPhone in your pocket, dust collects all by itself in the charging port. As a result, the connectors in the cable can sometimes not make complete contact and the connection is therefore lost. So clean that charging port, for example by carefully picking out the dust with a cotton swab or toothpick. Be careful not to hit any parts. Read more tips on cleaning your iPhone.

5. Use an official cable

Is the cable still causing problems and are you sure that it is not broken? Then make sure you use an official cable.

6. Restart your iPhone

Many problems are solved quite simply: by restarting devices. So reboot your iPhone from scratch. This way you can restart your iPhone.
