‘The Dutch are mainly looking for a black VW Golf with a towbar’

At the used car search site Autotrack we asked what kind of used car the Dutch would like to have. What are their most used search criteria so far this year?

Crazy about German

When we look at the most sought-after brands, it is of course a good reflection of what you encounter on the road every day. The Netherlands is still crazy about German cars. More than ten percent are looking for a Volkswagen and sister brand Audi is number two. This is followed by the two other German premium brands. In fifth and seventh place, Ford and Opel complete the line of German volume brands. Together they are responsible for 42.6 percent of all searches. Among the most popular types, nine out of ten models are of German origin.

Despite the SUV trend…

When you look at the range of new cars on the market, it seems as if the consumer wants nothing more than SUVs and crossovers. But according to the list of most wanted body types, that seems more like something the car manufacturers themselves want. The public in the market for a used car still prefers a station wagon or a hatchback.

Preferably four or five years old

The used car buyer is mainly on the hunt for cars that are about four or five years old. This becomes apparent when we look for the most sought-after years of construction. It is also striking that the occasion ‘with the head off’ is still popular. The construction years 2020 and 2021 are in sixth and tenth place.

Please have a tow bar

The Dutch with caravans, folding trailers, bicycle carriers and trailers are known and infamous far beyond the border. It should therefore come as no surprise that the dot towbar is the most popular accessory. Useful options such as cruise control and navigation are on two and three and, surprisingly, we find seat heating in place five. Modern man no longer seems to be able to do without it.

The black-white-gray grind

If you look at the average parking space, you can roughly guess what the most popular colors are among the car-buying public. It doesn’t look like the black-white-gray rut will be broken anytime soon. Only from place four can color be seen, which by the way again disintegrates in place five to silver-grey. Black – 26.54%
