Emily GT saved thanks to start-up
Did you already have your wallet ready when the photos of the NEVS electric sedan, called Emily, appeared on the internet? Then we have good news: it looks like he will come after all.
For years, NEVS had the ambition to build the remains of Saab into a new and successful brand with electric models. However, in March NEVS announced that it had gone into ‘hibernation’ in the hope of averting bankruptcy. A month later, photos of Project Emily were published: an electric sedan that, if we were to believe the accompanying words, was almost ready for production. NEVS and parent company Evergrande Group were unable to keep things on track financially. A future for the ‘Emily’ seemed unlikely, but there is hope.
Canadian-based EV Electra – whose origins are in Lebanon – has purchased the rights and almost everything surrounding the electric Emily GT from NEVS. Not only EV Electra, but also NEVS CEO Nina Selander confirms this. The Electra GT is not the only NEVS four-wheeler to change hands. EV Electra will acquire the rights to NEVS’ autonomous shared car PONS.
EV Electra promises to build the Emily GT through CEO and founder Jihad Mohammad in Trollhätan, Sweden. There is no further information yet about the development of the Electra GT – which will be sold as the EV Electra Emily GT. Information released earlier this year revealed that the electric four-door would have an electric motor in each wheel. The power: at least 490 hp and battery packs with 105 kWh, 140 kWh or even 170 kWh capacity, sufficient for a range of up to 1,000 kilometers.
