The iPhone 16 charges faster than its predecessor, but not as fast as expected. You need to know this.
The iPhone 16 Pro Max doesn’t charge that fast after all
According to previous reports, all iPhone 16 models would be suitable for a charging speed of up to 45 W. Tests have now shown that the new iPhones do not charge that fast after all. But that doesn’t mean there are no improvements at all.
The website ChargerLAB recently tested the iPhone 16 Pro Max with different chargers. The outcome? The iPhone 16 Pro Max charges at a speed of approximately 30W, not 45W. Although a peak of 37W was achieved with Apple’s 140W USB C charger, it is unclear how long it will last at that speed. was charged. It is an improvement compared to the 27 W peak of the iPhone 15 Pro models, but it also makes it clear that the mentioned 45 W is not achieved.
PhoneArena confirms results
The website PhoneArena achieved similar results with the regular iPhone 16. There, the device only reached a peak of 38 W when it was under extremely heavy load, such as during benchmark tests or playing games. According to PhoneArena, the iPhone 16 charges at a speed closer to 20W for long periods of time.
Apple only says that all iPhone 16 models can be charged to 50 percent in about 30 minutes using a 20W or higher USB-C charger. That’s exactly the same thing Apple said about all iPhone 15 models.
All iPhone 16 models support the USB-C Power Delivery 3.0 protocol of 15 V and 3 A, which equates to 45 W. However, this does not mean that they will actually charge at a speed of 45 W. So that rumor was incorrect, or in any case misinterpreted. To a lesser extent, the iPhone 16 still charges faster than the iPhone 15.
