The most important new electric cars of 2024

It goes on and on

The most important new electric cars of 2024

In 2023, car manufacturers will launch an arsenal of new electric cars onto the automotive scene. The pipeline that spits out new EVs almost every day will also be wide open in 2024. We look ahead to the most important new electric cars that will be presented or appear on the market in the new year. Hold on tight, there are a lot of them.

Are you EV tired? Then, for your own health and that of people in your immediate environment, you might do well to close this article quickly. We focus entirely on an extensive range of new EVs here. Important note: the list of new electric cars that we present to you digitally in this article is by no means complete. There are several models that we know are coming, but it is not yet entirely clear whether they will actually be unveiled in 2024, let alone whether they will be in Dutch showrooms that year. We also include brand new electric cars in this list that have already been presented, but which will not have their full Dutch market introduction until 2024.

Alfa Romeo Milano

The spectacular 33 Stradale is the first electric Alfa Romeo ever, although this exotic car, packed with retro design, also comes on the market with combustion engines. The Italians are only going to build a handful of 33 Stradales, so it is more of a tasty addition than a really important model. The Alfa Romeo Milano that will appear on the market next year is. The Milano is a compact crossover that will soon be available with both combustion engines and fully electric powertrains. There will be four-wheel drive variants with two electric motors. It is a technical sister model to the many compact crossovers from Stellantis, but with an Alfa twist.

Audi A6 e-tron and A6 e-tron Avant

After its generation change, the A6 with combustion engines will be known as the Audi A7. The A6 family will continue to exist, but will be added e-tron. Next year, Audi will launch the A6 e-tron and the A6 Avant e-tron on the PPE platform developed together with Porsche. With the electric equivalent of the A7, which will soon be called A6, Audi hopes not only to respond to the BMW i5 and the i5 Touring, but also to face heavy opposition from the Mercedes-Benz EQE. With the A6 e-tron Concept and the A6 Avant e-tron Concept, Audi has already given fairly concrete previews of what you can expect in 2021 and 2022. In addition to regular electric versions, there will also be sporty RS flavors. Audi will also launch an electric equivalent of the current Q5 in 2024. Not surprisingly, it goes through life as the Q6 e-tron (Sportback).

Citroen ë-C3

At Citroën, 2024 will be the year of the C3 and its fully electric version: the ë-C3. The Citroën ë-C3 has already been unveiled and, according to the French, should mainly make the EV accessible. The ë-C3 will be available on the market as the €24,240 You and the more generously equipped and therefore more expensive ë-C3 Max. They both have a 113 hp electric motor and a range of 320 kilometers. Later, the Citroën ë-C3 will also be available from around 20 grand, with a smaller battery pack that gives it a range of around 200 kilometers. Citroën will launch a seven-seat crossover in 2024 on the same basis as the ë-C3. That car will succeed the current C3 Aircross.

Fiat Panda

In 2024 we will finally be introduced to a brand new Fiat Panda. This will be a technical sister model of the Citroën ë-C3 that you see above. The new Panda will also be launched on the market with fully electric powertrains and will grow slightly compared to the Panda as you have known it for years. The current model with combustion engines will continue to be supplied alongside the new electric Panda for a few more years. Furthermore, the young (electric) Fiat 600 will get the chance to prove itself on the car market for the first time this year.

Fiat Centoventi

The new (electric) Panda gets design influences from this Centoventi Concept from 2019.

Ford Explorer

Ford is looking to Volkswagen for two new electric SUVs. The large Explorer, which was only supplied with plug-in hybrid technology in the Netherlands, is making way for a fully electric and considerably smaller Explorer. The arrival of the Ford Explorer has been postponed, but it should really be on the market in the summer. It is on Volkswagen’s MEB platform and will not be the only Ford on that German base. In the same way that the ID4 has the more dynamically lined ID5 next to it, the Explorer also gets a slicker alternative. It may also appear in 2024 and could just be called ‘Capri’. Furthermore, the Ford Puma is getting a facelift and this coincides with the introduction of a fully electric version.

Kia EV3

Kia has been selling models that are designed specifically as EVs for some time now, in addition to models that are also available with combustion engines. The Niro, for example, is available with both combustion engines and electric powertrains, while the EV6 and EV9 are always completely electric. That EV label will be expanded at a breakneck pace in the coming years. For example, Kia will pull the curtain on the EV3 in 2024. That will be a relatively compact electric crossover of which we already know quite well what it will look like. It will be Kia’s direct competitor for the successful Peugeot e-2008. We can also expect the European EV5 this year and Kia has an electric equivalent of the Ceed family in the pipeline: the EV4.

Lancia Ypsilon

Lancia is only a shadow of what it once was. It officially only exists in its home country Italy, where it still successfully sells the – by the way, very old – Ypsilon. This year, Stellantis is spreading Lancia’s wings to other European countries, including the Netherlands, for the first time in years. In a few months it will introduce the new Ypsilon. It comes onto the market with combustion engines and electric drivetrains. It will be a sister model to the many other compact electric hatchbacks from the Stellantis brands. It looks quite similar to the Corsa, although the Italian does have its own completely unique front and buttocks.

A stolen copy of the yet-unrevealed Ypsilon surfaced – literally – last year.

Opel Crossland and Grandland

Opel is launching successors to the Crossland and Grandland. The successor to the Crossland – of which it remains to be seen what it will be called – will be a technical sister model of the C3 Aircross successor, also yet to be unveiled by Citroën. We expect it will also be available as a seven-seater and will have both mild-hybrid machines and electric powertrains. Big brother Grandland will also have a successor. The new SUV that replaces the Grandland and whose type name is also not certain, will in turn be a technical sister model of the new Peugeot (e-) 3008. This means: mild-hybrid powertrains, plug-in hybrid engines and fully electric variants.

Polestar 3 and 4

They have both been unveiled, but deliveries of both the Polestar 3 and the equally electric Polestar 4 have yet to begin. The Polestar 3 was already presented in October 2022, but the arrival of the SUV, which costs at least €90,000, was postponed to the second quarter of 2024. The Polestar 4 – which, although its name suggests otherwise, is smaller, lower and less expensive then the 4 – will only be delivered for the first time in 2024. Will they emulate the success of the Polestar 2? Definitely not, the price difference is too big for that. However, it is undoubtedly pleasant for Polestar that it can offer its customers something different than the 2.

Renault 5

Forget the aging Zoe. This year, the electric Renault 5 will push it out of the showroom. The fact that Renault will launch an electric model with a design inspired by the Supercinq of yesteryear has been in the air for years. It already looked ahead to the model with the 5 Prototype in 2021. The Renault 5 will be 4.05 meters long, making it 13 centimeters shorter than the Zoe it replaces. It will soon be available for sale with a 40 kWh battery and a 52 kWh measuring package that allows a range of 400 kilometers. Its expected starting price is €25,000. Alpine will also receive a version of the electric 5. In February, Renault will finally launch the production model. AutoWeek was already able to show you all the secrets of the definitive Renault 5 in December. 2024 will also be the year of the already unveiled and price tagged electric Scenic.

Skoda Elroq

Skoda is going fast. Very hard. In 2023 it presented the brand new Kodiaq and Superb and the Scala and Kamiq have been facelifted. We find more news in the electrical field. For example, the Enyaq and Enyaq Coupé will soon receive a facelift and the brand will add a series of new electric models to its range. Eventually there will be an electric SUV with seven seats, a compact EV worth around 25 grand is in the pipeline and the brand will come with an electric station wagon. Even before those models appear, Skoda is pulling the curtain off the Elroq. This will be the electric equivalent of the Karoq and will therefore be one step below the Enyaq.

Tesla Model Y

What applies to the Model 3 ultimately also applies to the Model Y. There are concrete indications that Tesla’s bestseller will also receive a major overhaul in the interior and exterior in 2024, which is automatically big news given the sales figures. You can read more about this here.

Toyota’s EV attack

At Toyota, 2023 was the year of the new Prius, the new C-HR and the new Land Cruiser. This year the brand is adding perhaps its most important newcomer in years to its model range. We don’t know what it will be called yet, but we dare to call it bZ2X for the time being. In 2024, Toyota will show the production version of the Urban SUV Concept. This will be an electric equivalent of the Yaris Cross and therefore a direct response to the increasing number of compact crossovers in the car world. There will also be an electric crossover that will be positioned between the ‘bZ2X’ and the well-known bZ4X. Whether the ‘bZ3X’ will also come onto the market in 2024 remains to be seen.

Volkswagen ID7 Tourer

With the ID7, Volkswagen has an electric alternative to the Passat in its range. While the new Passat is only available as a Variant, the electric ID7 is currently only available as a sedan. For now, indeed. This year the more spacious ID7 Tourer will strengthen the range. Striking: Volkswagen has chosen not to call its first electric station wagon Variant, but Tourer.

Volvo EX30

We conclude the list with a car that has already been unveiled and the first examples of which are already on the road: the Volvo EX30. When Volvo communicated that starting price, it was cheaper than the electric Opel Corsa Electric. The price of the Corsa with a plug is now below that of the Volvo. However, that does not detract much from the interesting positioning of the EX30. After all, for almost comparable money you get a compact crossover that also has Volvo badges on its snout and butt. The Dutch (lease) market likes that. By the way, the electric Volvo that operates at the other end of the size spectrum – the EX90 – will finally hit the market this year.

And further?

Of course, there are many more electric models in the pipeline! What about the BMW iX2 and the brand new iX3? Or the BMW i5 Touring that will face the A6 Avant e-tron? Furthermore, Cupra is launching the Tavascan, Fisker is launching the Ocean, the Chinese HiPhi is introducing its first EVs and Hyundai is launching the Ioniq 7. The electric Mini Cooper and Countryman are entering their first real delivery year, MG is launching the Cyberster and other new EVs. market, the Peugeot e-3008 gets the chance to prove itself and Nissan appears to be introducing the successor to the Leaf this year. And what about the electric BYD Seal U, Porsche Macan or the Smart #3? This is just a random selection, because there is much more news to come…
