The Netherlands is lagging behind! In Norway, 90 percent of new cars have a plug

In 2020 and 2021, the market share of new electric cars in the Netherlands was 20 percent. That’s pretty impressive. But further north, in Norway, the market is a lot further. There, 64 percent of new cars are fully electric and 86 percent have a plug.

The Netherlands is lagging behind! In Norway, 90 percent of new cars have a plug

We’ve talked about it many times before. Norway subsidizes the electric car much more than the Netherlands does (although the government is also slowly turning off the tap there). And that translates into a huge popularity of EVs.

Electric cars market share of almost 90 percent

Nearly 152,000 new cars were sold in Norway in 2021, of which 113,751 are fully electric and 38,166 have a plug-in hybrid powertrain. That means for electric cars and plug-in hybrids a market share of 64.5 and 21.7 percent respectively, together 86.2 percent.

Norway is expected to break through the 90 percent market share for EVs and plug-ins for the first time this year. That was already the case in December.
