This is the “long-awaited” Opel Astra Sports Tourer, Opel writes. But the question is, of course, whether that is the case. Have you indeed waited a long time for this new station wagon, or are you looking at an Opel Crossland or Grandland with greedy eyes?
We wrote it last week: hatchbacks from the c-segment – such as the Ford Focus, Opel Astra and Volkswagen Golf – are losing popularity. The Dutch car buyer/lease driver more often opts for a more compact model or prefers to get into an SUV. In that sense, the Opel Astra Sports Tourer could also be on the wish list. Although it does not offer a higher seat, it does offer an abundance of interior space.
Opel Astra Sports Tourer with much more luggage space
The Astra Sports Tourer has a 5.7 centimeters longer wheelbase than the hatchback, but is 6 centimeters shorter than the previous Sports Tourer. And yet Opel has managed to create a lot more luggage space: 608 – 1634 liters. That was 540 – 1630 liters. If you order the Sports Tourer as a plug-in hybrid, the battery takes up space under the floor of the trunk, leaving you ‘only’ 548 – 1574 liters for luggage.
Same engines as the hatchback version of the Opel Astra
Opel supplies the Sports Tourer with the same engines as the hatchback. That means you can choose from a 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine with 110 or 130 hp, a 130 hp diesel and two versions of the 1.6 Turbo Hybrid (180 hp and 225 hp). The plug-in hybrids have a 12.4 kWh battery, which would be good for an electric range of up to 60 kilometers. An eight-speed automatic is always standard. The transmission is optional on the 130 hp petrol version and the diesel.
