The next Mazda CX-5 will not be an EV, but it will be a hybrid

Mazda ended the last fiscal year quite positively. The brand immediately looks ahead to what is to come and as part of this it announces that the next generation of the Mazda CX-5 will have hybrid powertrains.

The Mazda CX-5 is no stranger to some form of electrification. Since the end of 2022, the Mazda CX-5 has only been available in the Netherlands with the mild-hybrid powertrains introduced at the time. The CX-5 has been running for a while now. The current second generation of Mazda’s international success debuted in 2016 and went under the knife in 2021. Later this year, the Mazda CX-5 will blow out eight candles and so the Japanese consider it time to gradually release something about its successor.

However, we are still not much wiser. Mazda only reveals that the new third generation of the CX-5 will have a hybrid powertrain. That hybrid hardware does not come from Toyota, with which Mazda works quite closely, but from its own company. The brand also reports that it will launch its first fully electric car in 2027. It will be placed on a platform developed by Mazda purely for electric cars. Here you can read more about Mazda’s future plans in the EV field.

The Mazda CX-5 is selling well in Europe and the SUV is also doing well in the Netherlands. Since the market introduction of the first generation CX-5 in 2012, more than 34,400 units have already been registered in our country. With the exception of 2020 and 2021 – in which the CX-30 sold better – the CX-5 has been the most popular Mazda in the Netherlands since 2012.
