None other than Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne, who was the highest political official in France after President Emmanuel Macron, says that the reduction will not be made. She says this in an interview with the French BFM TV. Quite remarkable, because when she was still Minister of Transport, she was still in favor of a reduction.
She’s coming back to that now. Although reducing nitrogen and CO2 emissions from road traffic is also on the French agenda, Borne no longer thinks that lowering the speed limit on the motorways is the right solution. According to her, it would mean too much extra travel time for too many French people, making a 130 km / h ban undesirable. She does, however, consider it important to inform the population about the advantages of driving at 110 km/h compared to 130 km/h.
