Great news for Saab fans and for the people of Trollhättan. Where Saabs once walked off the line, a car will probably soon be built again that partly stems from the legacy of the Swedish brand. The promising electric Emily GT may go into production after all.

Last spring we were introduced to the NEVS Emily GT virtually. A car that we described as a ‘stillborn Saab child’, because it is a creation of the NEVS brand that emerged from the remains of Saab. Not only that; the Emily GT even has some Saab outward appearances and with a little imagination you could see it as a modern successor to Saab’s last all-new production model, the 9-5 NG. The Emily GT is a four-door EV with a powertrain of at least 490 hp and a 170 kWh battery pack, good for 1,000 km of driving range.

Like National Electric Vehicle Sweden (NEVS) itself, the Emily GT never seemed to get much further than an interesting idea. NEVS’ parent company is the Chinese Evergrande and as you may know, that company has seen better days. Not only that; NEVS is now in what it calls a ‘hibernation’, hoping that an investor will step up who wants to continue with it. That is now the case, reports the Swedish branch of Auto, Motor and Sports.

It is not yet clear who the investor is, but a letter of intent has been signed and the aim would be to start building cars again in Trollhättan. The Emily GT is the prime model that can roll off the band, although the question is still under which brand and model name. It concerns a European investor, it reports Auto, Motor and Sports. The NEVS (conceptual) car-sharing program called PONS has also been taken over by that investor. In 2020, NEVS already showed an autonomous study model for PONS.
