The ten most popular Clock Around videos ever

Klokje Rond exists exactly 30 years and that should of course be celebrated! That is why we have listed the most popular inspections over the years. It turns out that there is a lot of attention for cars from the Volkswagen Group and exclusive stuff.

10. Audi A4 1.9 TDI (891,854 km)

In tenth place we immediately find the first Volkswagen Group product, an Audi A4 1.9 TDI that had almost 9 tons on the counter. The ‘T’ from TDI turned out to be no longer entirely applicable, because the turbo was no longer involved. Despite that, the car was certainly not finished and, according to Joep, it could last a while if the owner could live with the fact that the sharpness was quite off. Incidentally, there is a small chance that the A4 really still drives: the inspection took place in 2016 and the A4 was exported in 2017.

9. Peugeot 205 1.8 XDT (1,001,825 km)

Where ’round the clock’ used to mean that a car had driven more than a ton, over the years a few cars have also passed by that have gone around the more modern six-digit clock. One of these was a Peugeot 205 1.8 diesel from 1992, which made the appearance in Klokje Rond in 2019. We were well aware that the French at the time screwed together good diesel engines. Still, it was a major achievement that the 205 managed to make it this far. Unfortunately, Joep came to the conclusion that the final station had been reached and not surprisingly, the car is no longer with us.

8. BMW 550i (330,230 km)

The BMW 5-series E60 doesn’t have a great reputation when it comes to reliability. With a 550i you get something very nice, but also something scary at home. The owner bought it with just under 3 tons on the clock and that was a brave move. Was it also wise? Joep estimated that you could just spend €10,000 to bring it back to its optimum condition, but you could also continue with less costs. We dare to doubt whether 10 backs have indeed been destroyed, but almost five years after the inspection, the 5-series is still on the way! Well with a new owner.

7. Dodge Ram 1500 (341,523 km)

As mentioned, there was clearly a lot of interest in exclusive stuff and that is evident from the number 7 on this list. In 2019, a Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie was a guest in Klokje Rond, who did not have too much experience with 341,000 km. Still, we don’t let a chance to screen such an Aries pass us by. The Ram did not disappoint Joep and it was also striking that the car on LPG actually drove just as well as on petrol. There was still a lot of life in the big pick-up and the owner said he intends to drive it happily after some maintenance. Unfortunately, the car appears to have been exported not very long after the Klokje Rond inspection, but it will undoubtedly still make someone else happy.

6. Audi A6 2.7 TDI (1,038,000 km)

An extremely high mileage is often – not entirely surprising – a reason for many to look at Klokje Rond. This was also apparent with the Audi A6 2.7 TDI that was on the bridge in June 2019. With more than a million kilometers behind us, it was one we like to see in our registration emails. The owner said that it has never been of great benefit to us and that made us extra curious of course. The diesel smell was not to be missed and the car did not exactly want to start, but the owner could live with it. However, Joep would be surprised if there were still more than 100,000 km of life in it. They can find out abroad, because this A6 has now also been exported.

5. Mercedes-Benz 250 TD (2,102,867 km)

If you thought that a million on the clock was a lot, then you have not yet seen Klaas de Poel’s Mercedes-Benz W124. He bought it with 2.1 million km behind him. Unprecedented, of course, and that’s why he (and we certainly) was very curious about what such a car would still be like. Well, to put it bluntly, you noticed it quite a bit when driving. Absolutely no shame of course after so many miles. Once on the bridge, however, a lot of rust also appeared. Not much was broken, only the rust devil would kill him sooner or later. The Benz is still registered, but has not had a valid MOT for more than three years.

4. Audi R8 4.2 FSI (252,549 km)

The third Audi in this top 10 is also the most special. 4.5 years ago, a registration for an Audi R8 rolled in and of course we couldn’t say no to that. With more than 2.5 tons on the counter, it would normally not be a perfect candidate for Klokje Rond, only with an R8 that is a bit different. It must be said: at 120,000 km a new engine was installed in the R8, so the 4.2 V8 had half less experience than the car itself. The overall impression was not bad at all. Although the inspection is already quite some time ago, the R8 is still with the same owner. We are curious if it has passed 3 tons by now!

3. Volkswagen Golf R32 (332,185 km)

The Volkswagen Golf R32, which was examined almost two years ago, was of a completely different sporting style. As with the R8, the mileage was still excessively high, but we were especially curious how the not-too-average technology had survived. In any case, the 3.2 V6 sounded great on the test drive and no crazy things came up during the inspection. Here and there the sharpness was a bit off and there was some oil leakage through a crack in the oil pan, but according to Joep the Golf could age quite a bit with the love it received. For the time being, Joep is right: the Golf is still on the way and also with the same owner.

2. Tesla Model S (271,452 km)

Electric cars are rapidly emerging from their niche, but five years ago you were still a bit of a pioneer with an EV. Relatively little was also known about how electric cars would fare after a good dose of kilometers. That explains to a large extent why we find a Bell Round of a Tesla Model S at number 2 in this list. A lot of people were just as curious about that as we are. Five years ago, the car was on the bridge at Carrec Technocenter, where it came off with a big feather. No noticeable things came up, besides some regular maintenance issues. The owner drove it for almost 100,000 km per year and has the car to this day, so probably slowly but surely the million kilometers are now in sight.

1. Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG (308,294 km)

The best viewed Klokje Rond video ever is that of Nico van Hunnik’s Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG. He had just sold the car before the inspection, but was able to take it one more time. Van Hunnik had driven 3 tons in just two years, not exactly the first car you would logically use, but he liked ‘a petrol better than a diesel’. A special story, because we wonder whether how many S-classes in this top version have reached such a high position so quickly. Two rather worrying things came up: a malfunction in the distribution timing and an uncontrolled combustion on one cylinder. That required real attention, judge Tim thought, because with a good bit of gas the engine went into limp mode. That was of course not the intention with such a comfortable rocket. Shortly after the inspection, the S63 was bought by a German company for export to probably Eastern Europe.
