A few months after the launch of the new Peugeot 208, Opel took the brand new Corsa to the world. We add the Dutch importer how the car is doing so far.
Opel has already sailed under the French flag for a while and the integration into Groupe PSA has been completed with an emergency. This also has its effect on the provision of information, because just like Peugeot on the 208, the Dutch importer says that it does not want to release exact sales numbers. Opel does say that the Corsa is technically “[…] scores satisfactorily, both versions with internal combustion engines and the electric Corsa-e. “If we take the figures provided by the Bovag-RAI, we see that in January and February a total of 1,088 copies of the new Corsa were sold However, the new Corsa has been available to order since July 4, 2019, and the order books of the Corsa-e were opened on June 18 last year.To avoid potential overlap with the previous generation Corsa, we are now sticking to the sales figures of the In the first two months of this year, Peugeot sold 1,057 units of the 208 in those months, which means that the pair are very similar not only under the skin, but also in terms of sales technology.
Like the Peugeot 208, the Opel Corsa is also not available with a range of combustion engines and as a fully electric variant. The entry-level petrol engine is the 75 hp 1.2, a machine that is always linked to a manual five-speed gearbox. The Corsa has a starting price of € 16,999 with this basic engine. In that case, the new Corsa is designed as simply ‘Corsa’ called basic version. The Edition is a step higher.
Higher on the list is the 100 hp version of the same three-cylinder, a power source that is available with a manual six-speed gearbox and an eight-speed automatic transmission, both available as Edition, GS Line and Elegance. The 130 hp version of the 1.2 functions as a petrol topper and is always linked to the eight-speed automatic. This most powerful petrol version is only available as a sporty GS Line. Dieselen is available with a 102 hp 1.5, a self-ignition that is only available with the six-speed manual transmission and, just like the 100 hp 1.2 petrol versions, is available in Edition, GS Line and Elegance versions.
The electric Corsa-e, like the e-208, has a 50 kWh battery pack and a 136 hp electric motor, the Edition has a starting price of € 30,499. This concerns the version with 7.4 kW on-board charger (1-phase). The variant with 11 kW charger (3-phase) has an additional cost of € 1,000 in all cases. The Corsa-e is also available as GS Line and as Elegance.
According to Opel, roughly three quarters of the Corsas sold have one of the petrol engines on board. According to the Dutch, the 100 hp 1.2 with manual gearbox is by far the most popular version, followed by the 75 hp 1.2 and the 100 hp 1.2 with automatic transmission. About twenty percent of all Opel Corsa is the fully electric Corsa-e variant. The remaining small part concerns the diesel version. The Edition is by far the most popular version, 55.3 percent of the Corsas sold is an Edition version. The GS Line and Elegance supply 27.3 percent and 17.5 percent of sales respectively. The Dutch importer tells us that things like a reversing camera, the Premium Package (including extensive multimedia) and a black roof are popular options.
