The “Neumagener Weinschiff” was part of a Roman tomb on the Moselle. The sculpture (3rd century) shows the transport of wine barrels.

When drawing borders, the Romans preferred to use natural features such as mountains, deserts or rivers as a guide. The Rhine and the Danube, for example, served this purpose. But a massive military infrastructure was also built along the rivers.
