Arrows aimed at i7, EQS and above
Jaguar already had a fully electric XJ in the delivery rooms, but unfortunately that was a stillborn child. Or not? A fully electric Jaguar XJ is still coming, so you understand Coach.
More than three years ago, Jaguar was busy testing a fully electric Jaguar XJ. A car that our espionage photographer also physically had in front of his nose, but where every trace of it then came to a dead end. Jaguar put a line through it. Despite huge investments, the XJ was nipped in the bud. In concrete terms, it was about canceling the ‘MLA-mid’ base, family of the MLA base of the current Range Rover. Jaguar is starting completely with a clean slate and will be launching three new fully electric models from 2025. What seems; there is still an XJ in between.
The British Coach understands from someone with internal information that the new trio consists of an already announced four-seater GT, an SUV and finally a top limousine, the XJ. Jaguar is in any case preparing a new JEA (Jaguar Electric Architecture) basis for the GT that it does not share with its sister brands, the XJ may also be based on that basis. Jaguar emphatically wants to position itself more exclusively in the market and impressive technology fits in with that. For the GT we can already count on a driving range of 700 km and a price tag of well over a ton, you can count on the XJ also going in that direction.
If Jaguar is indeed to become more of a Bentley-esque luxury brand, then logically the new XJ will not only target cars such as the BMW i7 and Mercedes-Benz EQS, but it may even hope to appeal to potential Rolls-Royce Specter customers.
