These 2 useful options in the Google Play Store have unfortunately disappeared

For several days now, users of the Google Play Store have been complaining about the lack of important information in apps and games. This is what’s going on.

1. App changelogs are no longer visible

First of all, the changelogs of app updates in the Play Store on mobile have disappeared. That’s the data you’ll see in the “What’s New” section (if the developer has added it). Casper, member of our Telegram group, drew our attention to this and also on reddit complaints appear. In the editors, we also see the message ‘No information from the developer’ in the ‘What’s new’ section for all apps. This data is visible on the desktop version of the Play Store. For example, if you look at the app rain radar, then information is provided on desktop about the latest update of the app. A new Pollen notification has been added to the app. This information is not visible on mobile. In the screenshots below you will find the Marktplaats app as an example.

2. ‘Updated on’ no longer visible

Another useful feature in the Play Store is the ‘Updated on’ section. That section can be seen at the bottom of an app listing when you tap “About this app.” This is especially useful for finding out when the developer last updated the app or game. Is there a date from the distant past? Then you know that the app is no longer actively maintained, and you better ignore it.

Now we saw this message on Reddit, and there it is indicated that you can no longer see when an app was last updated. After a check with the editors, we find out that this is indeed the case, on several phones. We’ve reached out to Google for comment and will update this story when we get a response.

Apparently Google pulled the “Updated on” information from the Play Store before and later put it back anyway† Hopefully, the search giant will now choose to restore this information, including the changelogs. As far as we are concerned, these are essential parts of the Play Store that provide the user with useful information. The fact that these two options are no longer visible does not benefit the user experience at all. Just like this replacement for the ‘My apps and games’ menu, which, among other things, has removed the list of beta apps.

Don’t see the “What’s new” and “Updated on” items in the Play Store on your phone either? Let us know in the comments below this article.
