Facebook, Twitter, Slack, Telegram and so on. There are plenty of apps and websites that can keep you from work constantly. That can sometimes be quite annoying and if you want to do something about it, you can of course just close them, but if you find yourself returning again and again, these apps are a solution.

1. Escape

An app like Escape works very well to gain insight into what keeps you distracted. It is a very simple program that runs in the menu bar and by clicking on it you can open a window. It states exactly how often you visit a particular site or service in a day. The app also indicates how often you have been distracted that day and how long it took you each time. That can be confronting.

2. Quitter

Quitter is an app from Marco Arment. He previously created the pleasant podcast app Overcast and long before became known as a co-founder of Tumblr and Instapaper. Quitter is its first Mac app and the program closes or minimizes apps that are no longer used after a certain period of time. According to Arment, this is a good way to minimize distraction.

Suppose your Twitter app disappears after ten minutes without you noticing, you might not get the urge to turn it on again for an hour.

Not even if you disable Selfcontrol and not even if you uninstall the program. You have to serve the time, then you will be allowed back on websites that you had blocked.
