These are the latest Saabs you can buy

Saab hasn’t been with us since 2011, yet the latest Saab you can buy is formally only 10 years old. It turns out to be the ultimate copy of the ultimate model, but we immediately grab some other relatively recent Saab gems.

Saab has been gone for a long time, but the brand is still missed. Not least in the Netherlands, where Swedish cars are generally very popular as a subdued alternative to the well-known German products. The Saabs that are still around are therefore often cherished by their owners for a long time. In ‘Klokje Rond’ we had an excellent example of this at the beginning of this year. Kees Schafrat purposefully bought a new Saab in 2011 to drive it as long as possible, and after more than 500,000 kilometers the end is still not in sight.

But what if you don’t already have a Saab, but want a copy that is as new as possible? You will find the answer to that question – at least for the moment – in the list below, containing the five most current Saabs that are currently for sale on AutoWeek.nl!

1: Saab 9-5 2.8T Aero XWD – 2013 – €32,450

Saab occasions

Wait, a 2013 Saab? That is not possible, but this copy did not get its first license plate until that year. Formally, he is now ‘only’ 10.5 years old, and therefore unprecedentedly young for a Saab. It is not a SportCombi, but otherwise all signals are green to call this Saab 9-5 of the latest batch ‘the ultimate 9-5’. We list: the thickest 2.8T V6, trim level ‘Aero Eksclusiv’ and XWB four-wheel drive with an automatic transmission. On top of that we note some taste-sensitive wheels, a striking rear spoiler and, according to the sellers, also Hirsch tuning, which would bring the total power to 330 hp. Don’t take the ‘New Inside’ in the opening photo too seriously – the car has been registered since May 2023 – but this is really a very special, very thick Saab.

2: Saab 9-3 2.0T Turbo – 2012 – €16,500

Saab occasions

We find another extremely late Saab in the form of this somewhat smaller and less expensive 9-3, which was registered for the first time in 2012. Again it is a fairly thick and powerful version, albeit now with a 210 hp 2.0. The orange ‘side markers’ in the headlights already indicate that this is an American copy, but that is certainly not a rarity in the world of relatively young Saabs.

3: Saab 9-3 Convertible 2.0 Turbo – 2011 – €24,950

Saab occasions

Number 3 on this list proves that American ancestry is not rare. This Saab 9-3 Convertible is originally from Illinois and has the same engine as the example above, but a completely different body. Yes: this is a convertible! As a product of the (more or less) inventor of the modern four-seat convertible, a Saab Convertible always has something magical about it, so you can count on this model being popular for many years to come. Now also, by the way, given the hefty price that people in Nijeveen dare to ask for it. There are many more recent Saabs at Wim ter Braake, including the one above and number 5.

4: Saab 9-3 Convertible 1.8T Vector – 2011 – €23,835

Saab occasions

This gray copy is available in Deventer for just a little less than the aforementioned Convertible. With a somewhat more modest 1.8T engine (secretly a two-liter, 175 hp) and a European history. The mileage of 144,904 is of course ‘peanuts’ for such a car, and you can tell by it.

5: Saab 9-4X – 2011 – €47,500

Saab occasions

Would you like to drive something very special as inconspicuously as possible? Then this black Saab 9-4X from 2011 is really something for you! The Saab 9-4X always makes us a bit gloomy, because in theory this mid-sized SUV had everything it took to get Saab back on track financially. The heavily GM-technique-based car (Cadillac SRX) still looks pretty fresh and has a beloved shape, but it was all to no avail. This copy is one of roughly 800 copies that were built in total, and with that you drive more exclusive than someone in a Ferrari F40. Nice, although we wish you good luck if a 9-4X-specific part fails or is damaged. With its V6, four-wheel drive, top equipment and low mileage, this SUV is also the most expensive car on the list, but that can be explained.
