Split gamma

These spy photos show the sporty JCW versions of the three-door Mini Hatchback and the Mini Convertible. Take a look at what’s hanging under the rear bumper. That’s right: exhaust pipes. But isn’t the Mini hatchback always an EV? Yes now, but not anymore.
With the Cooper, Mini has introduced a completely new electric model this year, which will soon only be available with electric powertrains. However, three-door and five-door hatchbacks and a roofless convertible remain available with combustion engines. The current generation of three-door, five-door and roofless Minis with petrol engines will receive a thorough facelift and will soon be in a refreshed form side by side with the electric Coopers in the showroom. In these spy photos you see the facelifted sporty JCW versions of the three-door Mini hatchback and Mini Convertible.
The hatchbacks get the new taillights.
The facelifted three-door and five-door hatchbacks from Mini are fitted with a completely new buttocks with triangular rear lights. This visually establishes the link with the electric Mini Cooper, which has similar models. For the Mini Convertible, Mini doesn’t seem to be able to get these new triangular taillights into the rear. Mini is expected to simultaneously introduce a modernized interior in its petrol models, which have in fact been around since 2013.
… but the Cabrio has to make do without those angular ones.
By optically improving the existing petrol models, the manufacturer prevents enormous investments in the development of a completely new Mini generation with combustion engines. With costs ideally as small as possible for the brand in mind, it is obvious that Mini will not make any major changes on a technical level. Not even on the drivetrain of the sporty JCWs as you see in these photos.
