This Alfa Romeo 145 emits a wonderful rumble – Enthusiast Wanted

Modestly special

Alfa Romeo 145

Alfa Romeos and boxer engines; those days are already behind us. You may be thinking mainly of Alfa Romeo’s Alfasud and 33, but the 145 and 146 were also available with boxers for a while. This nice and simple white one also has one.

Volkswagen, Porsche and Subaru of course made a name for themselves with it, but Alfa Romeo also had a preference for boxer engines for quite some time. Porsche and Subaru are still working on it, but for Alfa Romeo the boxer era was over in the second half of the 1990s. In 1997 to be precise, when the 145 and 146 were given a refresh and their boxer engines exchanged for a more contemporary four-in-line; the well-known Twin Spark engines. This Alfa Romeo 145 is from 1995 and therefore still has the boxer in its nose.

To be precise, he has the smallest boxer, namely the 1.4. Predecessor Alfa Romeo 33 was even available with a 1.2, but with the 145 and 146 it started with this slightly larger engine. Such a boxer has its advantages. Despite its modest displacement, the 1.4 with its 90 hp power is nice and fierce, even though it is still an eight-valve, and of course it sounds nice. On the other hand, fuel consumption is less favorable, but hey, that’s what any Alfa Romeo driver would be happy to do.

Alfa Romeo 145

For a long time, the 145 was quite popular among young drivers, among other things, because of its engine sound and power. This example was spared such a fate, probably because it is far from the flashiest looking 145. It is wonderfully modest, with its white paint and non-painted bumpers. Open windows? That still works with streamers. You also take a seat on (albeit neat) fabric-covered seats with a wonderfully dated pattern on them. This really is a 145 that has had a quiet life and that is also evident from the mileage of 110,000. You also notice it in the asking price: at €4,250 it is not cheap. But hey, how often do you find such a neat 145 from the first batch?
