This is how Night mode works on the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro (Max)

With the Night mode of the iPhone 11 (Pro), you can also take excellent photos in low light. This is all you need to know about the new feature.

iPhone 11 Night mode: this is how it works

A new function of the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max is Night mode. This option automatically appears when your iPhone detects that you are trying to take a photo in the dark. At that moment, a new icon will appear in the top left corner, next to the speed camera symbol.

As soon as you tap this, the button turns yellow and the shutter speed of the camera is increased. In this way, more light can be collected. You will then be instructed to keep the device as still as possible for a few seconds.

The iPhone calculates how long the shutter should remain open on the basis of the amount of ambient light. When the number 2 is in the moon symbol, you have to hold the iPhone 11 (Pro) still for two seconds. After this, the image is automatically processed and saved on your iPhone.

The Night mode is not available when you use the ultra-wide angle lens. The mode only works with the regular wide-angle camera. The Night mode also does not work when you are recording a movie. It is not very likely that the function will also come to earlier devices, such as the iPhone XS or iPhone XR. Night mode uses the new A13 Bionic chip and extra computing power in the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro (Max).
