It took a while, but now it is finally possible: Ditto can be caught in Pokémon GO. You will have to look for it better than you are used to from the game so far. We explain how Pokémon GO catching Ditto works.
Pokémon GO Ditto now available, that’s how you catch it
Pokémon GO contains only the first generation of Pokémon, but besides Mewtwo and three other legendary monsters, it was mainly Ditto that was not found by anyone yet. Now it appears that developer Niantic has finally added Ditto to the game, but that it is better hidden than any other Pokémon to date.

Since Ditto can transform itself (just like in the series and games) into any other Pokémon, it is very difficult to specifically look for a Ditto. This cheerful purple blob will also look like another Pokémon in Pokémon GO, and only after you have caught it will the game show that you actually put a Ditto in a Pokéball.
On Twitter and Reddit, several players have proven that an innocent-looking Rattatta or Pidgey is in reality a Ditto. This means that it pays to catch every Pokémon that appears on the map, because you can just bump into a Ditto that way.
Pokémon GO will not show you have a Ditto until you catch the Pokémon. At that point, the text “Oh?” appears, after which a purple flash fills the screen and Ditto appears. Dittos are already being caught all over the world, so the only problem is that he disguises himself as any other Pokémon.
