Did you send a WhatsApp message that you later regret? Fortunately, it is easy to delete the app for both you and the recipient. This is how you do that.
Delete a WhatsApp message: this is how it works
You probably recognize it. You have several people with the same name in your contact list and accidentally send the wrong WhatsApp message. Or you send a message full of spelling errors, which may cause confusion about what you actually mean.
Fortunately, it is possible to delete these messages in WhatsApp. The good news is that this is possible for both sides: both you and the recipient can no longer read the message after deletion. The person to whom you send the app will instead see a notification that the message has been deleted. As a result, he or she does not know what you have sent. This works as follows.
Here’s how to delete a WhatsApp message :;
- Start WhatsApp and open a chat conversation;
- Press and hold the message you want to delete until a menu appears;
- Tap the trash can icon at the top;
- In the menu that appears, choose ‘Delete for everyone’;
- The message will now be deleted for both you and the recipient.
The time limit between sending a message and being able to delete it is relatively long. You have up to about an hour after sending to withdraw the message. If you have sent an app to someone with an outdated version of WhatsApp, you will automatically receive a message that deletion is not possible. Of course there is nothing you can do about it if someone read your message before you deleted it.
