With the Google Maps Uber update it is possible to order an Uber directly, track it on a map and pay from the app. You no longer need the Uber app for that.

Google wants to make Google Maps a complete experience for routes and destinations. Part of this is that you can also use various taxi services. You can look them up in the app for a while if they are offered in your area. However, as soon as you want to order and pay, you will be sent to the app of that service. That is no longer necessary for Uber, because Google is rolling out an update for Google Maps so that all of this happens within the maps app.
You can find an Uber by opening the route planner and pressing the figure holding his hand up. Previously, when you were looking for an Uber, you were given a list of options, but now the available cars are simply on the map. Below that is a carousel with the different options and corresponding prices. You can swipe through to make a choice.
If you have an Uber account, you can log in directly to Google Maps and order a ride, follow it live on the map and of course also pay. If you don’t have an Uber account yet, you can also create one from Google Maps as soon as you want to order. You do not need the entire Uber app and you do not need to have it installed to use the function.

The update is currently still being rolled out worldwide by Google and can therefore also be available in the App Store at any time. You can always download the latest version of the app from the link below. You need 101MB of free space to use the app. You must also run at least iOS 8.0 on your device.
