This is how you send voice messages to friends in Instagram

After WhatsApp, it is now also possible to send voice messages to friends in Instagram. This is useful for when you don’t feel like typing, for example.

Sending Instagram voice messages: this is how you do it

It is now possible to send voice messages with Instagram. The feature has been tested in recent months and is rolling out to all users immediately. This is how you send a voice message with Instagram:

  1. Download the latest version of Instagram from the App Store;
  2. Open the app and press the button at the top right to send a message;
  3. In the chat window you will see a microphone, tap this icon;
  4. Hold down the button while recording your voice message;
  5. Release the microphone when you are done.

Your friend will then receive the voice message. If you start to stutter halfway through or can’t get your words out, quickly press the trash can on the left: the message will be deleted immediately.

Keep it short

A voice message can last up to one minute. Does your message take longer? Then you will be cut off automatically. The audio files can be listened to forever and do not disappear after a number of hours or days, as is the case with Instagram Stories.

You can send voice messages to both friends and groups. It is also possible to keep the message between you and the recipient (s). To do this, swipe the lock that is above the voice message during recording to the right. Your friend cannot forward the message to others now.

The addition of voice messages in Instagram is anything but striking. In WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger, both owned by Facebook, it has been possible to talk with your voice for much longer. Instagram is thus getting more and more social network functions. For example, it has recently become possible to share stories only with close friends, which means that potentially embarrassing things remain within the group.
