This is how you take a screenshot on Windows 10 without a keyboard

There is a Printscreen (or Prtscn) button on almost every keyboard. With that button you take a screenshot of what you are doing on your computer with Windows 10. But what if the button is absent, no longer works properly or your keyboard is broken, and you really want to take a screenshot? Fortunately, there is another option available.

Very often the situation probably does not arise. But if you don’t have a keyboard at your disposal or certain buttons don’t work properly, using Windows 10 can become quite difficult. Especially if your work requires you to quickly take a screenshot or screenshot of your work environment to illustrate something. It is a specific example of a problem that few people can experience. If you find yourself in that situation, know that there is an option within Windows 10 with which you make a print screen, without buttons.

Taking screenshots on Windows 10

You can use the Snip and Annotate app for that. This is a free app that is present on almost all modern Windows 10 computers and laptops. It’s a standard application that you probably didn’t even know you had on your PC. When you have organized your Start menu in alphabetical order, you will find the app next to the letter K. You then have to scroll down until you find it with your mouse.

When you have found Snip and Annotate, you can open the program with a single click of the left mouse button. At the top left you see the button New stand. This will create a new clipping, as the program calls it. You can capture a part of the screen or open an existing image. Of course we want to capture part of the screen. After pressing the button, a screenshot will be taken.

You can now choose how large the surface of the clipping will be. You can choose from three different sizes, otherwise you just choose the full screen. The three options are: a rectangular snip, a free-form snip, or a window snip. With the free form you can determine the shape of the cutting yourself. When you have made your choice, you will see an example of your work in the program. Then you can find the button on the right of the taskbar to save the screenshot, if you are of course satisfied with the result.

The great thing is that the program automatically gives the file a name, so you don’t have to type it yourself. So you don’t have to think about that either. If you do have a keyboard and like the extra options, you can always use Cut and Annotate, of course.
