Do you find it annoying that videos in the YouTube app start playing automatically without clicking them? This is how you set this up in 4 steps.
Turn off YouTube autoplay on your home screen: this is how you do that
YouTube will automatically play videos on the home screen. This happens silently: only when you tap the video, audio is added. This is not a short preview of a few seconds, but the entire video. As soon as you tap the video, it automatically starts where you left off.
The automatic preview on the home screen has advantages and disadvantages. On the one hand, it is so easy to see if you find a movie interesting and want to watch it further. On the other hand, all the videos draw attention. In addition, they slurp data and drain your iPhone battery faster. Fortunately, you can therefore choose to turn off the function.
Here’s how to turn off auto-playing videos on the Home screen:
- Open the YouTube app on your iPhone or iPad and tap your profile at the top right;
- Go to ‘Settings’, scroll down and select ‘Autoplay on home page’;
- Turn off the function or indicate that the videos will only play when you are connected to a WiFi network
- Press the arrow in the top left to save the settings.
From now on, videos will no longer start playing automatically. In the same menu you can choose to turn off the general autoplay function. The next video starts automatically when you have watched a video. YouTube tries to make sure that you keep watching for as long as possible.
