This is how you use the backspace function of your iPhone calculator

Did you know that your iPhone’s built-in calculator has a backspace feature? Neither did we until recently. For example, you use the option to remove wrong numbers during calculations.

Calculator app has backspace function

The Calculator app has been a permanent part of the operating system since the first iPhone. It is certainly not the only calculator you can use on your smartphone, but thanks to the simple design it is one of the better. Quickly performing a calculation is a piece of cake and the app hardly takes up any space.

While entering numbers, you may accidentally enter the wrong number or insert a comma too early. I used to always press ‘C’ to delete all numbers, but there is a relatively unknown way that is less rigorous. If you swipe left or right on the numbers at the top while calculating, the last number you entered will disappear. Handy to quickly correct a mistake.

The backspace function, which has of course been part of the Calculator app for much longer, was discovered by twitterer @censoredialogue. The internet almost fell off his chair in surprise after reading his ‘public service announcement’.
