With the renewed Bunq.me, the online bank Bunq is trying to compete with Tikkie. How does the refund service work? We’ll show you in this tip.
This is how you use Bunq.me
Owned by ABN Amro, Tikkie is extremely popular and already has about three million users. According to Bunq founder Ali Niknam, Tikkie copied from Bunq.me, the bank’s own payment platform, at the start, he tells RTL Z. From now on, anyone with an IBAN number can use the service and easily create payment links that you can then send to friends or family.
This is useful when, for example, you are going out for a drink with friends and you advance the bill, or provide a birthday present from a family member. Others can then easily and quickly repay you.
This is how creating a payment link with Bunq works:
- Go to Bunq.me and tap on ‘Claim your payment link’ to get started;
- Then choose a personal link, such as your own name or a short description of what the payment link is for. This then becomes bunq.me/yourlink;
- Then enter your IBAN number where you want to receive the money, and also provide your e-mail address;
- Finally, enter your name, agree to the terms and conditions and tap the orange ‘Finish’ button.
You can then forward your own payment link to friends or family members, after which they can enter the amount. Tip: to determine how much euros someone has to pay, you can enter the amount behind your link. For example, at 20 euros bunq.me/yourlink/20.
Tikkie guide
Bunq.me has some advantages over Tikkie. For example, you don’t need a separate iOS app to create payment links, but you can just go to bunq.me in your browser to create one. In addition, payment links do not expire and you can continue to use them, which is not the case with Tikkie. Incidentally, Bunq.me – just like Tikkie – works with all Dutch banks.
The lack of a full-fledged app is also a disadvantage of this alternative at the same time. With the Tikkie app you always have a handy overview of your outstanding payments at hand, and it is not hidden in the umpteenth tab of your browser. That makes the setup of Bunq.me the same as Tikkie, although there are a number of small differences.
