The renewed Google Home app should make it easier to install and operate on various smart devices. You can read here how that will work.
Google Home, 10 years ago and now
Google created the Google Home app almost 10 years ago. At the time, the average Google Home user had less than three smart devices. Now the average household in the United States has 22 smart home devices, and here too, smart home is becoming more and more popular due to the energy crisis.
So there are more and more smart devices in households, but according to Google we are still a long way from a really smart and helpful home: “Devices are difficult to set up, they don’t always work when you need them, they don’t all work well together and there are multiple apps to serve them.” Google wants to tackle this problem with a new Google Home app and the benefits of Matter, the new smarthome initiative that will finally see the light of day this year.
New Google Home app and Matter
Matter is there to help the different ecosystems that exist within your home work together better. And the Google Home app, according to Google, is the best place to set up and control all those different devices. So not only Google Nest devices but also devices from other manufacturers that work with Matter.
Google will release updates for this for Matter on Android and for the Google Home app. In this way, smart home should be accessible to everyone, whether you have a few smart lamps or a complete home automation system.

Fast Pair, Routines and Spaces
Some of the new features you can expect are Fast Pair and Spaces. Fast Pair for Matter makes setting up new devices ‘plug and play’. Your Android phone will automatically detect a Matter device and help you set it up. Just like Fast Pair for quickly pairing your earbuds with your Android.

With Spaces, you can quickly access devices grouped into key categories such as your lights, cameras, thermostats, or network devices. Next year, Google will add even more options to the app to customize Spaces. For example, you can create a Space for your cat, containing all your compatible pet cameras, the smart cat feeder, vacuum cleaner and air purifier in one clear view.

Routines also get a separate place in the Google Home app. In addition, Google is expanding the options for the Routines, with more Starters and Actions.

The Google Home app also gets an improved display for your Nest cameras. And from next year it will finally be time, the older Nest cameras and doorbells will also be added to the Google Home app. The Nest app will likely become obsolete.
Google Home for Wear OS and web
The Google Home app is also coming to Wear OS. You can turn off the lights, adjust your Nest Thermostat, receive notifications from your Nest cameras and much more from your wrist or laptop. In the coming weeks you can home.google.com view the new camera experience. You can then easily view all your Nest camera and doorbell feeds on your PC.

Availability
The new app will first as Public Preview become available so that you can already test the latest features. Matter will be launched later this year and Fast Pair for Matter will also be available for Android phones. At the same time, Google will update existing Google Nest smart speakers, smart displays and routers to control Matter devices.
