Over time, your AirPods become irreversibly dirty, which is why we tell you the best way to clean them again.
This is the best way to clean your AirPods
You often don’t immediately notice it from the outside, but you may notice that the sound quality of your AirPods has deteriorated. That is also a sign that there is dirt somewhere. And even if you don’t notice anything at all, it’s a good idea to clean your AirPods on a regular basis. We will tell you how best to do this. We follow Apple’s guidelines, because they are there for a reason.
Clean your AirPods, AirPods Pro and AirPods Max
No, fortunately your AirPods do not need to be bathed. In fact, Apple indicates that you should never submerge your AirPods or AirPods Pro. Sharp objects and abrasive materials are also prohibited. Clean with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth.
If your AirPods have come into contact with substances such as soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, perfume, solvents, detergents, acids or acidic foods, insect repellent products, sunscreen, oil or hair dye, first use a cloth slightly moistened with water. . Then dry them again with a dry cloth. Make sure they are completely dry before putting them back in the charging case.
Clean the (charging) case of your AirPods
You can also clean the (charging) case (of all AirPods) with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. For stubborn stains, you can dampen the cloth slightly with isopropyl alcohol (isopropanol). Then let the charging case dry thoroughly. To clean the Lightning or USB C connector, use a clean, dry, soft brush. Also avoid sharp objects and abrasive materials here.
Clean the ear cushions of your AirPods Pro
If there is moisture in an ear cushion, tap the AirPod with the opening of the ear cushion downwards on a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. You can also remove the ear cushions from the AirPods and rinse them with water. In any case, do not use soap or cleaning products. Allow the ear cushions to dry before replacing them.
Clean the cushions and headband of your AirPods Max
Apple allows this with a mixture of 5 ml of liquid detergent and 250 ml of water. First, remove the cushions and hold the AirPods Max upside down while cleaning the headband. Moisten a lint-free cloth with the mixture and clean both cushions and headband by rubbing lightly. Then wipe with another cloth slightly moistened with water and then with a dry cloth. Allow your AirPods Max to dry for at least a day before replacing the cushions.
