This is the best way to deal with pollen in the car

Whoever says spring also says pollen. How do you deal with pollen in the car, especially if you are allergic? And what is the best way to keep that light yellow layer on your car under control?

Spring means the return of pollen, the nightmare of pollen allergies. How do you drive calmly with all that pollen in the car despite everything? Check out our advice.

Close the windows

This is undoubtedly the most effective and easiest advice to apply. But of course we can well imagine that it must sometimes be really sad to drive with the windows closed when it is hot outside. Doing this will help prevent pollen from entering the cabin. If you have a convertible or just an open roof, it is best to keep the hood closed…

With the roof in place and the windows closed, all air from outside comes through the cabin filter and the pollen stays neatly in it.

Air conditioning helps fight pollen in the car

Contrary to what you might think, air conditioning is an excellent ally in the fight against pollen in the car. Indeed, according to a study, it reduces the amount of microorganisms by 81% and suspended particles by 83%. That is why it is important to use the air conditioner regularly and make sure it works properly, especially in the summer. It is therefore good to ask to check the air conditioning and to renew the cabin filter during the spring service. That already gives a lot of air.

You also need to use the air conditioner correctly. For example, by turning off the air conditioning five to ten minutes before the end of a ride. Then the air in the ducts dries better and you prevent mold formation. That in turn is the cause of the stale air that you sometimes notice.

Wash pollen off your car

You can also see the season of the pollen in the car on the outside. After all: there is such a fine layer over the paint. You wash the pollen off your car in a car wash or with a high-pressure sprayer. Do this regularly, because pollen attracts dust and sand particles. Do you use a pressure washer? Then keep a distance of at least 30 cm from the car. The pollen is not harmful, but it is precisely those grains of sand that can cause small scratches if you go over the paint with your hand, for example. When washing, also choose a solid wax layer, then pollen and other dirt literally get less grip on the paint. You can of course also visit the car wash.
