Ferrari is expanding. The mighty SF90 Stradale is joined by the SF90 Spider. Indeed, the cutaway version of that 1,000 hp plug-in hybrid extremist!
The SF90 has been sitting on the Ferrari throne in Maranello since mid-last year. Just like a few years ago with the LaFerrari, the Ferrari in control is a plug-in hybrid. The Ferrari SF90 Stradale does not have a mighty V12 or V10, but a blown 3.9-liter V8 that can deliver up to 1,000 hp together with a pair of electric motors. That blood-fast piece of desirable electronics is now accompanied by an open variant: the SF90 Spider. The electrically folding hardtop can be opened or closed in 14 counts.
Plug-in hybrid
Like the dense Stradale, the Spider is a superlative in every way. Behind the seats is a just under 4 liter V8 that with 780 hp and 800 Nm is a lot more potent than the eight-cylinder in the F8 Tributo. That 780 horsepower machine is linked to not one, not two, but three electric motors that boost the power to a spine-splintering 1,000 horsepower. However, that bonk primal power is only available in the special Qualify mode. The battery package of the Stradale SF90 has a capacity of 7.9 kWh, good for an electrical range of about 25 kilometers.

Bloodfast
The SF90 Spider, created like its close brother to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Scuderia Ferrari, has an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. One of the three electric motors is incorporated in the transmission, the other two are each given a place in a front wheel. You can already feel it coming: the SF90 Spider is indeed a four-wheel drive. The extra traction that this makes possible is necessary. The 1,670 kg sports car sprints to 100 km / h in 2.5 counts. This makes it almost as fast as the closed Stradale, although the Spider puts 70 kilos more in the shell due to its open construction. Don’t click away yet, there are more impressive figures. In 7 seconds, the SF90 Spider catapults itself to 200 km / h. The top speed? Hold on. A fierce 340 km / h. However, you have to settle for a top of 135 km / h in electric mode. The spoiler work on Ferrari’s open flagship is good for 390 kilos of downforce at a speed of 250 km / h.

The base of the 4.71 meter long, almost 2 meter wide and only 1.2 meter high SF90 Spider is of course almost identical to that of the already famous SF90 Stradale. That also means that the lion’s share of the chassis is constructed from carbon fiber. Logically, the interior also comes from the dense Stradale. Also in this brand new Italian supersporter so a fairly minimalist-looking interior complete with an extensive digital instrumentation and a steering wheel that is flattened at the bottom, on which an arsenal of touch-sensitive buttons is housed. The control levers of the automatic transmission are designed like the shifting pattern of manual Ferrari’s, a nice detail. Ferrari is supplying an Assetto Fiorano version of the dense SF90 which, with a car weight of 1,570 kilos, is another 30 kilos lighter than the original. Such a taste also comes from the SF90 Spider. That extra hardcore version includes other dampers, a different rear spoiler for more downforce and thanks to, among other things, carbon fiber door panels and a titanium exhaust system, it is 21 kilos lighter than the normal Ferrari SF90 Spider.
A Dutch prize has not yet been announced. However, the Italian price, excluding taxes, is € 473,000. That is about ten percent more than the dense SF90 Stradale costs. The arrival of the SF90 Spider further expands Ferrari’s customer base, Maranello reports. The manufacturer states that nearly 50 percent of SF90 Stradale customers are new to the brand.
